Dad always said: The best gifts in life are the ones you don't ask for...

by Miriam and Herb Segall

Marvin, how's your back? Why do we ask this question on this auspicious occasion of your 70th birthday? Let me test your memory. How many times did you help the Segalls move their king size bed and miscellaneous furniture after arriving in Pasadena in 1955? How many times did times did you help Herb paint our apartments? The correct answer is in the title of our congratulatory message.

Marv you deftly united your student days at CCNY and Cal Tech with your friends, scientific probing and your obsessive commitment to fairness and truth. Example: JIM CROW MUST GO! Your laughter, guitar and songs delighted so many and your bongo drum parties still resound in our ears, the dancing and the singing to the rhythm of the drums and your guitar.

Marvin, may your elegant mind, visions and life style never cease but increase with age for at least another 70 years.
